In July 2023 the Working Group held their first ‘Swish’ …or Fancy Clothes Swap! Instead of purchasing new clothes parishioners donated their unwanted but still very wearable clothes and accessories and later the same day left the event with new items chosen by them.

This theme of re purposing or reusing is something that we are all becoming more accustomed to.

Our second Swish! took place in October 2025 again at Welshampton Parish Hall. The format was similar to the previous event but on this occasion  volunteers were present from the Ellesmere Repair Cafe led by Rachel Pittaway, a member of our Working Group. They were available to do small repairs and make minor alterations to garments. This was in addition to the clothes swap. We know that those who attended enjoyed their time exchanging clothes and accessories for new items. Also, the added facility of small repairs and alterations was indeed a bonus. Severn Hospice was once more our chosen charity. The charity benefitted from monies taken for tea and home made cakes. They also benefitted by receiving all those clothes and accessories which were not swapped on the day

Living more sustainably can be easier to achieve, and cheaper, than reducing our carbon footprint to zero. Whether it is switching from a plastic bottle of hand soap to a traditional bar of soap, using a doorstep milk delivery or composting any food and garden waste rather than sending to landfill, we are all trying to live more sustainably
